PiMPStreamer for 2.6 — A fine goal scored by Raphael !!! —
Allrighty… Thanks to jonny for combining all the 1.5 code to only the idct stuff, and the brave work of raphael to make a “mips” only version of the idct code instead of using the ”me”. After a few (not so trivial) adjustments here and there I managed to make the first 2.x PiMPStreamer version…
Yes!! It runs now on 2.x PSP’s !! Enjoy!! Just put the 2.x files in the PSP/GAMES dir and edit the pmp.ini for server settings and eLoader will pick them up. (tested on a 2.6 white psp)
Note: Some key combinations don’t work yet (pressing start to refresh will do evil.. workaround is to go to another dir and back). Also you cannot run full speed here, advise to set the server on /2 framespeed
Also the .62 stands also for some minor issues solved in the server and psp client (1.5).Â
This is what I call real co-operetative developing:  working all together to a solution…. (don’t know if it is intended)  On the other hand… it is quite a mess in PMP Mod land, with about a dozen of MODS and contributors.. perhaps someone should take all the source up to now and make a grand version…
This really makes my day, after being a little bit sad not showing up in the summer pspupdates list…..
(jonny deserves it)

DickyDick1969
Update: Since I only tested 2.6, I urge people having 2.0/ 2.01/ 2.5 to send me (email)  as much feedback (good and bad) as possible, so I can release a debug version for those involved.

still same problem, current stream directory “” then a few seconds of nothing, then crashes…i’m sure others having same problem….. what could be the problem???
v1.5 btw
June 15th, 2006 at 1:10 am
I’m sure it is contacting the server, because if i close the pimpstreamer window while the “current stream directory “” is showing on the psp, the psp immediately shows the “no host” error…..something is wrong with the windows part of the program, in the directory listing i think
June 15th, 2006 at 1:30 am
Dicky, please concentrate on mantaining CPU use at high values…my shuttering problems after 3-4 secs are 100% server side: with Process Explorer, I noticed that PimpStreamer.exe when starting streaming has a peak of 2-3 secs at 55-60% CPU using, and in that few secs I notice perfect playing on my PSP…then everything goes down to 5-6% and stays heare, resulting in shuttering everything I play.
Keep up the good work, and sorry for any language error (i’m not English).

I’d really like to see some kind of CVS/SVN coworking on PMP Mod, because I think it has great potential. Unfortunately I have no experience with managing a CVS/SVN repository and also don’t have the time to learn it now, since I’m too involved in getting a clean GUI done. Probably after I finished that, I will try to find a host for a SVN repository and maybe even jonny will commit there, though I haven’t talked to him about something like that yet.
Greets,
Raphael
June 15th, 2006 at 2:19 am
Castanza, have you made a ms0/psp/video folder?
And well played Dicky, A lot of people asking for 2.0 support, you came true to your word and produced the goods
June 15th, 2006 at 3:24 am
Still that bug:
when a folder contains the “& sign, it doesn’t work.
exemple:
Media Path C:\Benny&June
Please correct if you can, thanks!
June 15th, 2006 at 5:49 am
I totally agree! This definitely should’ve been in QJ.net’s summer sizzlers list thing! Well, for what it’s worth it’s definitely in mine.
June 15th, 2006 at 6:20 am
You are a GOD among mere mortals. You pwn my face off!!!!
June 15th, 2006 at 7:27 am
Very nice application, keep up the good work Dicky. I was having the same problem as Castanza but Reggie’s tip solved the problem, Thanx Reggie! I have 1 suggestion for the windows server, would it be possible to have it start as a service for XP? Maybe with the ability to hide the icon on tray? Or maybe have it password protected? I have my reasons for all this nonsence **cough** Streaming Porn **cough**, lol.
June 15th, 2006 at 7:30 am
I can never ever use this dont know how need help please
June 15th, 2006 at 7:47 am
This is without a doubt one of the greatest APP for the PSP, up there with PSPRadio. I too have been severely pwn’ed in the face by D****D***1969’s awsomeness…ness… o_o
June 15th, 2006 at 10:51 am
Good work man!
The program now works very well
I just have one doubt: I have an avi file with two audio tracks, and the PiMPStreamer automatically selects the first audio track, how can I do to switch between these tracks?
thank you!
June 15th, 2006 at 11:38 am
i dont understand what’s wrong with the full speed framerate thingy that dicky is talking about. i ran my pimpstreamer at original framerate and nothing is wrong with it so far.
btw you still have to create a “VIDEO” folder in the psp so that it will run and get rid of the current stream directory “â€? error
for me pressing the start button to refresh doesnt crash pimpstream or anything so yeh, just my experiences with the program so far, best homebrew out there, no doubt!
June 15th, 2006 at 11:51 am
Miguel, dont know about the service stuff, but it does already minimize to the system tray, try it
June 15th, 2006 at 1:42 pm
v2.71 ok?
June 15th, 2006 at 1:53 pm
It cannot quit on my 2.01, if i press triangle the screen goes blank and it accesses the memorystick and crashes, then the eboot gets corrupted so i can’t use the app anymore and have to replace it but the file is all wacko so i can’t remove it :/ so could you somehow fix the quitting part
June 15th, 2006 at 2:11 pm
What have I to change in the ini file? The IP adress? Where can I find my IP adress?
June 15th, 2006 at 2:24 pm
Does it play any better on 2.0 ?
June 15th, 2006 at 2:25 pm
i love uuuuuu
thanks a lot lot lot lot
June 15th, 2006 at 4:49 pm
I love this! Thanks for the 2.x support.
Got a few bugs and helpful tips for those of you getting started.
- You must create a \PSP\VIDEO folder, mine kept crashing until I put something in it ( I just used output.avi that’s in the Windoze directory )
- If the server crashes, load a pice of video that resides on the PSP, start the server again, exit the video, and the list will refresh.
- This is not the first time that this has happened but my PlayStation PORTABLE (Did stress Portable?) never worked well with wifi enabled applications. Well I figured that out too, since I got my PSP while at family’s house I set up their WiFi first, almost all homebrew seems to look only for the first created connection, whether or not it is there. So, apparently these apps weren’t meant to traavel. If you delete the first connection it still won’t work. I had to reset my PSP to make my house the first one on the list. So as a suggestion for future verions, can you make it possible to choose a connection?
I’m sure I forgot something but you guys have done a wonderful job, keep up the good work.
June 15th, 2006 at 5:55 pm
I strongly believe that PimpStreamer is the best app for PSP (but can you add the subtitle mod?)!!!!!!!!!
But I have the same problem with castanza… And I tried EVERYTHING!
Restoring to default settings, recreating network, deleting the pmpstreaming.ini, copy/paste output.avi in PSP/VIDEO and I didn’t had any result…
I don’t know if it makes any difference but I also can’t see in the windoze the rss/feed (I don’t know why)
Any help?
June 15th, 2006 at 6:41 pm
Just been having a fiddle with the PiMP over the internet, and it worked first time
Only one problem though, I think that I may be trying to get too much bitrate from my PCs upstream connection. Dicky, would it be possible in a future update for you to put a function where we can adjust the bitrate for the server from the PSP? I understand that putting OSK support might be a pain in the ass, so a similar setup to changing AR would be cool, with options for 100,200,300,400,500,600 might be the best way forward.
SID, FYI. PiMPStreamer *IS* one of those apps. that *DOES* travel well, all u needed to do was change the con= value in the pmp.ini file to reflect which connection you wanted to use.
June 15th, 2006 at 7:34 pm
I’ve got a problem, it works ok until i try and play a video, and then the windoze app crashes, i get the message that it cannot open output.avi it seems to be fine at the psp end, if i reload the app i can go back to browsing the directory.
June 15th, 2006 at 7:44 pm
can any body tell me what the bit video work with this
because i tried .mov files and it’s did’t work
Thanks A lot
June 15th, 2006 at 8:52 pm
Great suggestion Reggie!
More config stuff on the PSP client
1. network config selection
2. select bitrare/ frame divider
I’ll put it on my current items list
June 15th, 2006 at 11:36 pm
When I try this it told me It couldnt find a ms0:/PSP/Video folder. So then I created one but it still said the same thing. What am I doing wrong?
June 15th, 2006 at 11:53 pm
damn this app is so fuckin great
its as unstable as hell sometimes but when it works it works really good
something for the server: showing what IP is connected, where it is browsing, current bandwidth usage and maybe even an automatic bitrater
based on the maximum possible bandwidth
June 15th, 2006 at 11:59 pm
and before i forget
: a battery meter and maybe even the volume if thats possible
just my…. 23 cents :/
June 16th, 2006 at 12:31 am
Thx Dicky, looks like u might run out of buttons if ur not careful, I guess pushing square in file browse mode will be more than just an ‘about’ page now
Either that or its combo time, O+L = Roundhouse kick to the bitstream………
June 16th, 2006 at 2:37 am
Great app DD69!
Been using your PiMPStreamer in addition to malloc/Raphaels PMP Mod and recently johny/magiKs PMP Mod AVC since the beginning - v0.1
Just dropping by to say… Good Work and keep it up
By the way, I agree with your “real co-operetative developing” comment.
All of you involved in some way with PMP are doing great work!
June 16th, 2006 at 3:24 am
I dont know if this is a current bug or issue but when starting
Windoze it says port in use …. and i cannot start the server … and on the psp it says like directory “”
June 16th, 2006 at 4:04 am
Runs fine on 2.6, I think i will must tune bitrate/framerate to not have some lag (Probably from wi-fi network? Not my processor limited)
Otherwise it runs PMP files (Serenity trailer found here : http://www.megaupload.com/?d=81L1C84K ) on memory stick and (not sure) in native resolution. But for the moment it lags a lot.
Thanks for the work
June 16th, 2006 at 5:58 am
Reggie, thanks for the info, going out tomorrow to test this.
June 16th, 2006 at 7:09 am
thank you very much Dicky & Raphael. This app DOES work, and works pretty well on my 2.6
pretty hard to believe i can stream all my media content off pc/network to my psp on the fly, and the bonus being this is for FREE!
this is a huge kick in the mouth for any sony staff working on psp software at this very moment.
quick note for Sony - f*** you, i won’t be buying any software from u lot in the future.
again thanks for this fine software, i dont think ive tiddled with my psp as much as i have until now
June 16th, 2006 at 10:28 am
configuration:
PSP:
- 2.5 with eloader
- ms 1Go free space
- x:/PSP/VIDEO
- a 2 files (extension .pmp) in previous directory
PC:
- Windows Xp SP2
- Router (port 3333 forwarded)
- Wifi (mode B) with no security
I started the application in windows and i added two directories.
I started the application in psp and i can see these directories (btw it will be better if we can choose a configuration at startup)
When i choose a file (a divx video) from the list:
- on PSP: i have the first image of the video then it freezes
- on PC: the application is not working (cpu not in use)
So, is there a problem with 2.5 because i checked in a lot of forums and it seems that people who get this application work they have 2.6
thanks for your hard work and making this application more stable
June 16th, 2006 at 10:33 am
@ Fate, Its trying to tell u something……. try changing the port settings in the pmp.ini and the ini file for windoze, make sure they are both the same, try 3334 on both and see if that works, basically, what it means is that the port is already being used by another program or service, which is why you cant see a directory listing because the PSP cannot connect to the Server!!! If it says that one is in use then change it to something else. Dont worry, you wont run out of ports, there are 10’s of thousands of them
June 16th, 2006 at 12:44 pm
Great software, works great. I can’t wait till the user interface starts looking as good as the software works !
Also.. the server side, is it possible to make that a tray icon or a service that starts in the background on windows startup?
June 16th, 2006 at 2:11 pm
I think the 2.xx version only works with version 2.6 fw. I don’t want to upgrade to 2.6, just my luck that someone will release a 2.01/2.5 downgrader a week after I upgrade. Has anyone had any luck running this on fw 2.01 or 2.5? Please post if you did. I am running fw 2.01.
June 16th, 2006 at 3:30 pm
Many thanks Dicky and Raphael for this 2.x version !
Keep up the good work
.
Zx.

in a fw2.00 not working for me…
:(
June 17th, 2006 at 12:43 am
I have a firnmware 2.0 PSP and am having the same problem as alot of people it seems. I changed my IP in the .ini file to that of my local machine (192.168.0.2). I added the e:\psp\video folder and e:\psp\dummy.psp file. I installed the server software on my local machine and shared several folders.
Everything boots up and connects fine with the PSP. When I select media files (I have tried a few different mpg’s, as well as MP3’s, all exhibit the same behavior) it switches to a screen that says “loading…..” and then shuts down after about 30 seconds to a minute.
Anyone solve this problem?
June 17th, 2006 at 12:58 am
Well 2.5 version here, and exactly same prob than Baron Fek, could be cool to specify if it is working or not on 2.5 , instead of letting us trying and trying for ages.
June 17th, 2006 at 12:58 am
Mike, it works great on my 2.01
although many times it fucks around not connecting or going really slow, but thats probably my shitty network
June 17th, 2006 at 1:12 am
Will the feature to use a “ip redirect be added? … so instead of praying your IP doesn’t change you can just use yourname@noip.net?? That would be Aces if it could work like that
Thanks Dicky for all the hard work!! Between you and Devhook My new 1.5 is coming along GREAT!!! Now I just need to get paid so I can “show you guys some love …. not in a gay way … …. “not that there’s anything wrong with that
June 17th, 2006 at 3:00 am
Damo, try creating a shortcut for PimpStreamer.exe, right click it (the shortcut u just made), select properties, next from the ‘run’ options select ‘minimised’. then just place that shortcut in your windows startup folder. works fine for me.
June 17th, 2006 at 12:54 pm
Sorry if I quote myself, but maybe no one noticed my post
If it isn’t so then forgive me
“I have an avi file with two audio tracks, and PiMPStreamer automatically selects the first audio track, how can I switch between these tracks?”
thank you

It works! On first trial, it crashed after selecting a directory. After i added \psp\VIDEO folder in my memory card and copy output.avi into it, it played most of my file, although some of them sounds breaking.
It doesn’t play VOB files. Give error “get_packet_stream failed”
Thanks and great work!
Wong from Malaysia
Tested it on a white 2.6 jap with US GTA.
June 22nd, 2006 at 7:32 am
Hi, thanks for this app btw
, but i’ve a White Jap fw 2.6, when i try and load PimpStreamer for the 2.0x version i get a error about Kernal then i click X to try anyway and the psp switches itself off.
I’ve got the Pimp streamer folders in PSP/GAME folder and made a VIDEO folder in the PSP folder, is that correct???
Many thanks
Best regards

Well I have a white psp firmware 2.6. When i locate the file in my psp memory stick, It shows the file as corrupt. What is happening. Can someone help me please.
August 1st, 2006 at 12:01 pm
A more detailed usage text might help pimp noobs like me get started quicker. I finally got it working on my 2.6 after trying for a month. No where in the included text does it say that I need a psp/video file on my memory stick. Thanks to those who put it on here. Otherwise, Great program. The video looks as good as the high quality max media manager videos.
August 23rd, 2006 at 12:53 pm
