PiMPStreamer WPA..
Finally a WPA version…
Argh after senseless debugging, I discovered that I forgot to initialize the crop tables in the memodule.prx . Anyway a good debugging experience is always a lesson well learned!
To make the WPA version I took the memodule from the libmemodule implementation of PMPMOD VLC, coming from the briljant coders jockyW and jonny.. Also I had to rewrite a part of the whole app for user mode.. Anyway it works now.. PiMPStreamer WPA..
The setup wiil install both versions of the software for 1.5 and 3.X. On vista don’t select the checkbox in the installer, but install the psp software after installing.
added bonusses of the WPA version: the psp 0.90 app will quit when pressing HOME
Also if you install manually, just place the PIMPSTREAMER090 dir in /PSP/GAME (not in /PSP/GAME150 anymore. )
Donwload PiMPStreamerSetup-0.90.msi or PiMPStreamer-0.90.zip
Update: Appearantly there is an error with the new streamer.. As I have no trouble streaming all kinds of content with my 3.10 oe-A PSP with a WPA (PSK-TKIP) static IP connection, so I’m looking for situations to reproduce the problem.
Please anyone who can send me feedback, comment here or post in the forum, and give as much info as possible.
thanx!
Someone pointed to me that the server version was 0.83.. I think the msi creation went wrong. I rebuilded the MSI.

Hi and thx for wpa version
never had any problems with previous version…
i have fw3.03 and i am running it on 1.50 kernel
i got this error with 0.90 version in GAME dir :
Starting…
Could not load PSP_NET_MODULE_COMMON
Press x to continue (pressing it doesnt work, home button will exit fine)
With other version titled 2.01 also installed in GAME dir i got fine until it needs to list Current stream directory: “”
It just hangs on there and waits with WIFI light on and after some time adds text error connection to host IPADDRESS:PORT (not written here for security reasons
I tried to change to 3.03 kernel in recovery menu, it doesent fixed anything
Internet browser working fine with this new WPA-PSK (TKIP). I stayed on WEP just beacuse of pimpstreamer so i really want this WPA version up and running
Thx one again
May 2nd, 2007 at 5:06 pm

May 2nd, 2007 at 7:19 pm
Using 3.03 OE-B I get:

Ill try upgrading to a newer OE and see how it goes.

What a bummer, the program is great, but I still have to go back to WEP…
Btw. Somehow the pmp.ini needed to be copied manually from the 1.5 version to the OE version map?
May 2nd, 2007 at 8:57 pm
same prob here, after chosing the prefared vid it says loading and then error: and shuts itself off!
Any solutions for that?

Hmm i tested it on a 3.10 oe, running fine. Perhaps I forgot something in the MSI? Did anyone try the ZIP ?
May 2nd, 2007 at 9:07 pm
Question for all testers:
Can you run the “connection test” ?
What is your Psp rendersize option?
May 2nd, 2007 at 9:23 pm
I’m on 3.40 OE-A
what setting do you need to have set in recovery mode
what folder do you install it in to(GAME,GAME150 GAME340)

doesnt work with 3.10oe
it gives the following error with 3.X version
tried both GAME and GAME150
“Starting..
Could not load PSP_NET_MODULE_COMMON
Press x to continue”
1.5 version gets further but still does not work
it incorectly assigns IP address
Network configurations:
“1. BLAH (BLAH) ” (its all zeros)
after selecting a network it says
“No Pimpserver found in PMP.ini
Rerun the psp binary installation..”
installation does not include PMP.ini
…
hope this feedback is useful in developing a fix
May 2nd, 2007 at 9:36 pm
I’m getting the “error:” as well.
I have a WPA password. I’m running 0.90 on a 3.30 OE-A.
As a side note, for 1st time users, the installer does not place a pmp.ini in the 3.X game directory, but does place one in the SUB directory in the 1.5 folder. The connection tests would not complete without that, so I copied the one from the SUB folder. All connections ran, with good speed. It just crashed on attempting to play a video.

3.40 OE-A gets through WPA neg, but fails at the stream selection. I get simply “Error” after I initiate the stream. The app then crashes to power off.
I’m sure you’ll find the fix Mr. Dick. Just wondering, did the v.83 PC component accidentally get distributed with the new .90 PSP release? The “About Pimpstreamer” is still reporting .83. Hope this helps…
Thanks as always

Hi. Just wanted to report my log.
Running 3.40 OE-A.
1.5 version works fine. Great work. maybe you’d like to change the “ICON0.PNG” to say “0.90″ not “V2.01″ =)
3.X version says “Error:” when starting a stream. I have a WEP key on my wireless router. I have placed it in GAME340. (my regular GAME folder is associated with the 1.50 kernel).
Great work though again. Hup HOLLAND!!!
May 2nd, 2007 at 10:16 pm
Looks like I have to upgrade to 3.40
to inspect this problem..
May 2nd, 2007 at 10:27 pm
maybe it has something to do with the wpa passkey?
May 2nd, 2007 at 10:41 pm
Good to see the update again. Here are my results with 3.40 OE-A. I tested this with the new msi and only the v2.01 version works in the PSP/GAME folder and trying to run 0.90 from the same folder results in “Starting..Could not load PSP_NET_MODULE_COMMON Press x to continue”. Now if I move the 0.90 to PSP/GAME340 folder it connects to my access point I can get into the media directories on the PC and see the files but when trying to stream it just says ERROR on the screen and there is no activity in the Streaming bar on the server GUI.
May 2nd, 2007 at 10:45 pm
Upgraded from 303oeb to 340oea and using 0.90a.
Realised I had the 3.xx version in the wrong folder (this is the cause of the “Could not load PSP_NET_MODULE_COMMON” problem), moved it to GAME304 folder. It now connects fine to the server but get the “Error:” message.
Also tried static & dynamic IP but no change.
May 2nd, 2007 at 11:17 pm
yeh, if you put the pimpstreamer 0.90 folder into game340 itl load up but you get an Error: if you play somthing and the psp freezes for me.
May 2nd, 2007 at 11:37 pm
I was getting to PSP_NET_MODULE_COMMON error as well….then when i tried to log onto my wireless network though the psp’s default internet browser all my network settings where gone. I re-entered my settings, including my WEP Key. Next time i tried loading PiMPStreamer on psp (3.03oe-c) i’m back to getting the “Error connection to host ***.***.*.***:3333 (* being my ip address) what am i doing wrong
May 2nd, 2007 at 11:48 pm
This works in 3.10OE but not 3.30OE or 3.40OE.
Just tested it on my psp in all 3 versions (and all revisions).

Im Using 3.10OEA
a solution i tried to that PSP_NE_MODULE_COMMON error
trie turning off your Wi-fi Switch before clicking on Pimpstreamer
when it connects to pimp it will say
Wi-fi Switch off
Wi-fi Switch off
something like that
then you turn the switch on
then wola! worked for me once then after that it just keep working now without having to switch it off and on anymore.. see if that helps any of u

thnx!

Running 3.30 OE A’
Connecting to server through Netgear router using WPA-PSK+WPA2-PSK with AES+TKIP Static IP’s for both server and PSP ( NO special port Config needed )
Server running on Dual P4 2.02 GHz XP Pro SP 2+ system with 1.5 GB ram
AV and software protection via MS Live One Care ( Had to open port 3333 and allow traffic from Pimpstreamer.exe in the Windows Firewall settings.)
PSP can connect and browse designated media directories. PMP Connection Test function comes back fine.
Pictures can be viewed and copied to PSP via L Trigger. Server shows file and stream status for pictures.
MP3 and Video can be selected on PSP but results in ERROR message, lockup, shutdown. Server never shows that any file had been selected to stream.
Thought that having spaces, -, _ or = in folder and file names may be the probelm. Renamed everyting to not have any of the above and it still did not work.
May 3rd, 2007 at 4:44 am
it DOES work with 3.10oeA!!! i just tried it on my brothers psp(mine has 3.30oe, and his has 3.10oea) and it works! i dunno whats up with it not working in other versions though. i’ll post this in the forums too.

Great app, loving this on my local area network.
I have some problems running this over the internet. It seems that PSP can’t connect to my home computer (connection works with normal browsers)
PSP just says: error connection to host…
Any ideas what might be the problem ?
The WLAN I’m using to connect to internet doesn’t have any encryptions as it is free.
May 3rd, 2007 at 10:27 am
to be more specific, PiMPStreamer says: opendir_stream is the cause for this error

I got the ERROR: screen when ever i try to start music or video. But if i will look at pictures it just works.
Must be some problem in the new 3.40 firmware that makes it crashs with the music and video.
Hope you remake a new version asap with it fixed! Thanks for a nice tool.

I always upgrades to the newest version of the firmware on the psp and i can test on Win2k, XP and vista if you need it.
Curently i have problems running it on firmware 3.40 so i would really like to test for you!
May 4th, 2007 at 11:31 pm
Nice version Dickydick !
Een paar bugs gevonden tot zover (few bugs found):
You can clearly see Pimpstreamer WPA is based of VLCP 0.0.9 OE as in the connection states. Can’t you change that because my psp hangs at connection state 6 of 6.
With the X button you can show up a blue menu with some settings (from PMPAVC) but that doesn’t show up 99/100 times ! I only had it twice after pressing the X button 20 times or so.
And some tips: Make colors available, because i know Purple is PIMP, but i like black, and it saves my psp battery !
Thanks.
May 5th, 2007 at 5:38 pm
so what is the diff between pmpstreamer .90 and 2.01???? .90 didnt work for me so i deleted it but 2.01 seems to work for me just fine..
what the heck is .90? is that for 1.50 firmwares or something?
P.S. im running 3.40 and no probs (other than .90 not working)

OK,
I’m using 3.40OEaand the SUB version works perfect and it auto detected everything. Bt couldn’t get the 3.40OEa .9o verion to work though.
Don’t know what to do…But why is there 2 versions again ???
Thanks
May 6th, 2007 at 2:30 am
I have a 3.40 OE-A and my friend’s 3.10 OE-A.
My 3.40 OE-A, Pimpware SUB version works fine and perfect althoug sometimes it hangs. The Pimpware 0.90 version is is not working and I got “Error:” when trying to play it. BTW, I’m using 3.40 kernel on both. I experienced the same even on 1.50 kernel (SUB works fine, 0.90 got error).
My friend’s 3.10 OE-A, Pimpware 0.90 works fine and perfect. I haven’t tried running the SUB version though.
If people with the same OE version but have different experience on running Pimpware, try changing your UMD and it might solve the problem. I’m using Chotto Shot Edit UMD btw.
May 6th, 2007 at 5:45 am
To fix the PSP_NET_MODULE_COMMON problem, you are likely using a “GAME” folder and on 1.50 Kernel.
To fix the issue, create a “GAME340″ (or whichever 3xx you have) next to your standard GAME folder and place PIMPSTREAMER090 in it. Now when you start up pimpstreamer you will no longer get that message and it’ll properly connect.
However, now I’m still encountering the unknown blank “Error:” upon trying to stream something and crashing the psp.

Firmware version 3.03 OE C
Router, with WPA encryption
When launching v. 0.90 I only have a purple screen saying “starting” forever, I tried with folder GAME and GAME303, none worked. I also tried to copy the pimp.ini file from the 1.50 version, but same results. (Static or dynamic IP give the same result)
Version 201SUB seemed to work, but failed at state 3of4 while connecting. This was apparently because I had DHCP. With a static IP, I managed to go through step 4, then the application froze. Either in testing mode, or in “real” mode (it says something like : Current stream directory: “” , then nothing)
I have good hopes for the WPA protection (my router doesn’t work with WEP) on Pimpstreamer, hope someone will find a solution !
May 8th, 2007 at 7:04 am
Me again.
tried with 3.40 OE (fresh install)
Dynamic IP doesn’t seem to work, but other than that I can now connect with WPA encryption.
I get the same error as other people : “Error:” when I tried to read a video.
May 9th, 2007 at 4:17 pm
for now the solution is going back to 3.10 ..
May 16th, 2007 at 12:28 pm
nice progr. i got 3.40 oe-a everything works till i try opening audio or video. it just crashes and shows error: nothing else.
May 22nd, 2007 at 9:02 pm
IT WORKS DAMMIT !
For the record i have 3.40 OE. At first i got the same problem as most of you guys, that is all worked well but when i tried to play a movie or song it just said “error:” and crashed.
I started messin’ around a bit and here’s my working configuration :
- first of all do exactly as the tutorial says
- make sure that you’re running on kernel 3.40 (in recovery menu, under configuration)
- the folders PIMPSTREAMER201SUB and PIMPSTREAMER201SUB% are put in \GAME150
- the folder PIMPSTREAMER090 is put in \GAME
- i disabled all plugins in recovery menu
- in your psp menu go to game, memory stick and choose pmpstreamer V2.01 SUB
that’s it, the rest is as described in the tutorial, make connection, go to your shared folders, select your movie or song and press circle and enjoy
Note that the above config works for 3.40 OE, i dunno about other firmwares..
Also note that i am not using any encryption on my wireless connection.
Hope it can help someone…
May 24th, 2007 at 7:35 pm
cenobyte: you are using WEP, the problem is with 0.90 and WPA, not 2.01 SUB and WEP.
May 30th, 2007 at 1:20 pm
I just want to thx cenobyte ! I just installed the PiMPStreamerSetup-0.90a on my 3.40 oe-a !!!

I installed this tonight and I am also have the “error” problem. I’m running Dark Alex’s 3.4 oe-a firmware. I can browse and view my pictures no problem but when I try to play music or videos of any format I get the error and then my PSP shuts down. I’m running a Linksys WRT-54G wireless router with WPA-TKIP. I figured it was a problem with WPA, but when I disabled the security I still get the same problem. But I guess it wouldn’t be WPA related since people with 3.10 firware do not have an issue plus we can view our pictures in 3.40.
So it might have to do with how it gets installed to the PSP?
June 2nd, 2007 at 6:56 pm
i tested .91 with my wrt-54g and i cant get wpa to work only wep…it hangs on the test 2 but works flawlessly with wep encryption…
