First release of PeeJay MIDP
Playing graphic java mobile games on your PSP, now you can! (atleast you can play SNAKE
)
- playing snake

- the midp welcom screen

This first release loads and plays the demo java jad packages of the SUN j2me.
- how to use
Direction pad is mapped to 2, 4, 6, 8 numeric. Right and Left Triggers are for the “java mobile game” right and left menu buttons. Cross is mapped to the enter/select key.
- how to add mobile java games
download the java j2me devkit. Install a game on the emulator using http, then copy the appdb directory contents to /PSP/MIDLET/appdb on your PSP. Soon there will be a networked install on PeeJay!
This is a first, many of the native functions still to be implemented.
Download PeeJayMIDP-0.2.zip
Update: somebody on the PSPUpdates blog claims he got RuneScape running on PeeJay…. hmmmmmmmm

so basically everything works? (except for the few stray games?)
May 26th, 2007 at 1:55 am
DickyDick, I think the guy who said he got runescape working was lying. At least, FreePlay seems to think so, and I do trust his word.

Yeah.. I only believe it if I see screenshots.

[…] Pimpware has released the first version of PeeJay MIDP, a free software for Sony’s PlayStation Portable gaming device that allows you to install JAR/JAD files and play Java games meant for Nokia S60, Sony Ericsson UIQ or Motorola mobiles on your Sony PSP. The application supports MIDP 2.0 profile with full color support. It is still in its nascent stage and therefore can play only certain demos from Sun Micro’s Java development kit. […]

Dicky, can you please write up a little guide on how to install the games. I have a few jars on my pc accompanied with the jads. I looked for the dev kit and I got ‘Sun Java Wireless Toolkit’. Is this the correct app? It was l could find. My games run on it but I dont know what to do now. I copied the appdb folder but I still dont have the games on peejay.
Any help would be greatly appreciated by all.
Cheers matey.

Soon i will release the next version that will do a networked install..
June 3rd, 2007 at 5:34 pm
Is that networked installfrom the psp over wifi?
My wifi doesn’y even work :’( lol.
Anyway, I figured out how to install the games on the pc side but when I copied the appdb folder across, I was still presented with the same games and not any that I had tried to install.
June 3rd, 2007 at 7:55 pm
?? i did it the same way for the snake and java examples..
Anyway I will soon update the current version, as I gather all the bugs..
June 5th, 2007 at 12:40 pm
When I look in the appdb folder, the jad, jar and bin files of the games I installed are not there. They are in a folder inside the appdb folder. This folder is called defaultcolourphone.
June 8th, 2007 at 8:45 pm
could you send me the jads? (email) so I can test them..?
June 24th, 2007 at 7:00 pm
Hey DickyDick, I have an idea for PeeJay. I have the jar file to Google Maps, you should add this so all PSP users can use satellite imaging and get directions on their PSp, like a GPS. I have the jar file if you want it.

I have PSP with firmware version 3.40. I tried simply unpacking the archive into the memory stick — it says “no games” probably because it’s looking in the GAME folder, not GAME150 that the archive has. If I rename GAME150 to GAME then the PSP says “Data corrupted”.
:(

Download the zipped file.
Unzip it with winzip or whatever you have.
Copy the contents of the unzipped file to
PSP/MIDLET/appdb
Download JADMAKER (its Free).
then you download .JAR file from the interent like www.mobile9.com
once downloaded open JADmaker.Drag and drop the .jar in the grey area of the JADmaker and this will copy a .JAD file on your desktop.
Make a new folder and name it the name of the game.
Put the .JAR and JAD files in the folder.
Copy the folder to your games folder on your memory card.
Once you open the file on your PSP it should install on to the Java player.
Most games are about 675KB per folder.
